Many of us
have had our lives affected by Childhood Sexual
Abuse, either directly or by choosing to share
our love with a survivor. However we got here,
and whatever trials our lives have held, we all
have one thing in common: the ability to deal
with these issues and to change our lives from
that of a victim to a survivor.
This site is dedicated to that single moment in
time when we all come to understand that it is
time for a change.
What you will find on this
site:
Freedom of Choice: It is never our intent to
endorse any single direction or philosophy. As
you will hear and see on this site, the more
people you ask, the more answers you will
receive. It is our intent to provide you, the
viewer, with as many options and opinions as
possible. We allow you to make the best choices
for yourself.
Freedom from Embarrassment: Being a victim of
Childhood Sexual Abuse never was, or is, your
fault. One of the things we hope to dispel with
this site is any hesitation you may have about
directly addressing the issues of your past. The
writers and interviewees on this site do so
proudly, without embarrassment, because as
survivors, they have come to understand the
freedom that is possible with understanding.
Freedom from Shame: When I chose the name for
this site, A Quiet Shame, many people told me it
was wrong and politically incorrect.
Professionals and survivors alike said that the
word shame should never be associated with
victims of sexual abuse because it struck too
deep. To be honest, that only showed me that it
was exactly the name we needed. There is no
shame in being the survivor of a crime. Shame,
for me, is the name of that fear that represses
victims.
When shame has no power over us, then we have
become survivors.
What you will not find on this site:
Editorial opinions or answers: all the articles,
interviews, and personal stories on this site
are written by the person named in the article
and are never altered. Although, I do remove
content that is not appropriate for a general
audience, or can be misused by non-victims
reading the site for the wrong reasons.
The professional opinions expressed are those of
the author of the article, and not those of this
site. It is my hope that we can gather as many
conflicting opinions as possible. Only with
diversity can the viewer find the path that is
correct for them.
SPAM, Paid Links, Email Lists, Data Collection
or User profiles: This is not a site for profit.
We do not collect any personal data, or sell
mailing lists or links for services. The links
you see on this site are to professionals who
have donated their time, knowledge, resources,
and talents to its growth. Links to them are
provided so that you may contact them directly
with your questions, and seek their qualified
assistance. We NEVER give them your information.
Stories of Pain: All of us have our personal
stories of pain and tragedy. It is never the
intention of this site to dwell on the past, but
instead, to move into the future as a survivor.
We do not accept submissions from victims,
survivors, or experts that dwell on what has
happened. This site is about the power to
overcome, and to find the strength needed to
become a survivor.
Hiding from the truth: Many of the issues raised
on this site are not easy ones to deal with.
Feelings will get hurt, people will disagree,
and opposites will clash. It our intent and
desire that from it every viewer of this site
will find a path to their own personal truth. If
you disagree with an opinion or position on this
site, it is your obligation to let us know that.
Everything we receive – including criticism of
this site itself – will be posted as long as it
is well written, non-judgmental, does not single
out a person or organization, and is in keeping
with the core theme of this site; the growth of
the human spirit.
Want to help us grow?
What we need is your thoughts. This site is
nothing without your active participation and
contributions of stories, approaches, and
histories. If you want to contribute, contribute
your words. If you have something to say, let’s
talk about a video interview.
If you really want to help us, then I humbly ask
the following: if you find our site useful,
please tell someone about it. If you find a
piece of information within the pages and videos
of this site that helps you along your path, let
us know.
